Living at Glen

Although Glen has been inhabited since at least the thirteenth century, today it remains almost exactly as it was created by the famous Scottish tycoon Sir Charles Tennant who commissioned major building works, including Glen House itself, from the mid 19th c. That these carefully crafted buildings are all from the same period gives the place an authentic character which is rare to find nowadays.

About 60 full-time residents call Glen home. They live in a range of nearly 30 buildings, about half forming the core 'village' and the rest spread picturesquely about the Estate. Some of the residents work for the Estate but most are here simply because they love the beauty and peacefulness of this hidden valley.

Whilst anyone can enjoy the pleasures of Glen for the day - stunning scenery, lack of road noise, vibrant nature - there is something special about calling it home. The rhythms of life in the countryside are best experienced through the changing seasons as favourite migrating birds return from far-flung places, lambs begin to scamper in the pastures, summer's long days reach further into the night, then golden leaves begin to fall and sharp frosts once again paint the landscape white.

Being a resident at Glen brings additional benefits such as beautiful walks right outside your front door, access to garden allotments, use of the Village Hall, discounted firewood, grazing for horses, and a sense of community that seems elusive in today's busy world. Although secluded along the Quair Water, it is minutes to Innerleithen and Peebles and about an hour to the centre of Edinburgh. All the famous recreation in the the area like the Glentress mountainbike centre and Tweed River fishing are nearby. High speed internet service is available.

Our let properties are professionally managed by CKD Galbraith to ensure your concerns and needed repairs are addressed quickly and courteously. The Estate looks for tenants who would like to make Glen their home just as the Tennant family has for more than 150 years.
